Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

You might associate occupation with work, but occupation is anything that keeps you busy during the day. Occupational therapy helps you develop the skills you need to live an active and fulfilling life. Occupational therapy focuses on a child’s fine motor skills, self-help skills, and sensory development. At Stepping Stone Kids Therapy our therapists are trained to evaluate each child, and develop a treatment plan to help the child reach their goals.

Assessments

Assessment will be conducted to determine the necessity of occupational therapy services. Through the use of clinical observation, parent interview (for social, medical and developmental milestone history), standardized and non-standardized tests, our therapists assess the client’s fine and gross motor skills, range of motion, muscle strength, self-care skills, coordination, cognition, perceptual skills, and sensory processing.

Occupational Therapy Services

Children will play, learn, and develop new skills, ranging from the fine motor skills needed to write or draw with a pencil or crayon to motor coordination, balance, sensory perception, and social skills.

Occupational Therapy facilitates the growth and development of infants and children who are experiencing developmental delays, or difficulties performing various day-to-day activities. Occupational therapists address a wide variety of conditions including delays in visual motor, fine motor and sensory processing skills. By applying proper therapeutic techniques, improvements can be seen in areas such as learning, play, feeding, grooming, school readiness, self-regulation and dressing. As your child learns, they foster a sense of achievement, and their confidence grows.
